Nop Payarith was born on August 16, 1981 to a family deeply rooted in Khmer entertainment arts. He was born and raised in Phnom Penh. Everybody in his family is an artist in different fields of Khmer entertainment. His mother Samkol Sotheavy is a famous novel writer. His father Nop Sambath is also a song writer and movie director. Though he went to the National School of Management and studied management, Nop Payarith got involved and steered into singing since he was young as everybody in his family was in Khmer entertainment arts. His deep voice, acting and his fashions had made him one of the unique and outstanding singers in Cambodia for young audience. His hair style was always leading and different from the mainstream popularity. His outfits were always casual and new way oriented. His popularity began to rise significantly after the two movies were released and played in the country and overseas.
Starting in 2006 his popularity seemed to reach a plateau as he was seen losing steams in his career due to an expected allegation filed against him. It came as a big surprise to his fans both local and overseas when local newspapers published a story about his accused involvement in a motorcycle robbery case with another person. According to a news article by Reasksmey Kampuchea Newspaper, he was summoned by Phnom Penh municipal court for him to come in to respond to a court petition filed by a young girl named Ouk Tevin who accused her brother Ouk Tevea and Nob Payarith of motorcycle robbery. A subsequent news article said Nop Payarith and Ouk Tevea had showed up in court and denied the allegation. There was no new information about the allegation after that.
It was unclear as to what was exactly the cause, but Nop Payarith seemed to become less and less visible in music videos and TV shows after the allegation. There were only a few songs released by Reaksmey Hang Meas Production in 2007. That was when Chorn Sovannareach and Sokun Nisa joined Reasksmey Hang Meas Production. Late in 2007, there were news articles about him walking way from Reasmey Hang Meask Production to work on his wedding embellishment and tailor shop and that he quit working for Rasksmey Hang Meas Production. Rumors said Nop Payarith was upset with Rasksmey Hang Meas Production because they did not release his songs enough. In the latest Reaksmey Hang Meas Production DVD album, Volume 87, there were a couple of his songs in the album. However, unidentified sources said these songs were old songs recorded before he left Reasksmey Hang Meask Production, and that he still had a lot of songs that have not been released by Reaksmey Hang Meas Production.
Until now, there is no new information about his future singing career or whether he will be working for another music video production company. However, Nop Payarith seems to be very happy with his wedding embellishment and tailor business. He told various local magazines that he has been very successful with his wedding embellishment business and that he has a plan to have more branches in some provinces. There is a chance that he may not sing again because he needs more time to mange his businesses, especially when he expands it to provinces and that was his major he took in school - business management.
